WoW Borneo, who and what ?
We created the association Women of Wildlife – WoW Borneo in October 2021 in order to act on our commitment for wildlife preservation.
Aware of the threat posed to life by climate change and decreasing biodiversity, we are committed to contributing to the protection of one of the most vulnerable, endangered places in the world. We have chosen to focus on Indonesia, a hotspot for biodiversity, more particularly on the island of Borneo. Borneo is a place with extraordinary animal and plant biodiversity, much of which is endemic. Orangutans, gibbons, hornbills, sea turtles, orchids… are the ambassadors, all threatened by human activities destroying their natural habitat and poaching.
In addition to housing numerous flora and fauna, the mangroves, peatlands and tropical rainforests that make up Borneo’s landscape are responsible for sequestering huge amounts of carbon from the atmosphere, helping to limit climate change.
We support locally run projects
Our trip to Borneo in March 2023 confirmed our intentions to financially support several Indonesian NGOs for wildlife protection. These organizations are working side-by-side with the local population in West Kalimantan.
We have also decided to join together with young Indonesian natives from Sukadana, eager to commit to the protection of their land. This Franco-Indonesian association, called “Yayasan WoW Borneo Indonesia”, is focused on turning Pulau Maya Island (South China Sea) a sanctuary by buying out land that would otherwise be developed into farms by palm oil companies. The organization will also be helping the local populations to develop sustainable economic resources to improve their living conditions.
We hope, thanks to our actions of fundraising and sensibilization in France, to alert people to the dangers threatening the incredible biodiversity of Borneo Island and all its inhabitants.
Our house is burning, we won’t look the other way anymore!
For a long time, we were wondering what we could do… by ourselves.. from France… to save the planet.
We have chosen to help those who already suffer from the effects of global warming but who are not contributing to it. We have chosen to commit, in spite of our jobs and family life, because positive small acts can have big consequences. We have chosen to listen to local NGOs, who know the solutions that work.
We have chosen to be linked to the future of animals and people from Indonesia. We have chosen to try and believe that we can make a small difference.
